The LCOS chip used in the X10468 series has a parallel-aligned nematic liquid crystal layer whose alignment is controlled, pixel by pixel, using a CMOS backplane and a Digital Video Interface (DVI) signal via a PC. A change in the alignment of the liquid crystal changes the phase of light only; there is no change in the input light’s intensity and polarization. 

The LCOS-SLM achieves high light utilization efficiency and high diffraction efficiency. Easy computer control along with precise and linear phase modulation can be accomplished with the X10468 series.
