Luminescence signal imaging can be considered as one of the most demanding applications for electronic imaging systems, especially due to the very low light levels typically associated to this method.
Cameras with extremely good sensitivity, down to single photon detection have been developed for this technique. Deep cooled CCD cameras, Electron bombarded CCD cameras, intensified CCD cameras and EM-CCD cameras offer features.
