They are rugged (almost no moving parts), come fully factory-calibrated (no user calibration needed), are easy to use and can be connected to any PC via standard USB 2.0 interface. This highly sensitive model of the PMA-12 series uses a back-thinned linear CCD linear image sensor as a photodetector and an optical fiber bundle for light input.
